Orthognathic Surgery
Orthognathic Surgery
Orthognathic surgery is a general term used to describe surgeries that correct skeletal and dental deformities in the facial bones. This type of surgery is performed when a patient's jaw and facial appearance require correction, when the jaws are misaligned, or when the teeth are misaligned with the jaws.
Situations in which Orthognathic Surgery is Applied
• In cases where the lower jaw is forward, backward, on the right or left side,
• In cases where one side or all of the lower jaw is underdeveloped,
• In cases where the upper jaw is forward, backward, on the right or left side,
• In cases where the development of the upper jaw is underdeveloped,
• The teeth in the lower and upper jaw do not touch each other (open bite),
• In cases where the tip of the jaw is forward or backward and small or large,
• In cases where the cheekbones are larger, smaller, forward or backward than they should be,
• Deformation of the shape and structure of the jaw due to an accident or tumor,
• In cases where the relationship between the lower jaw and the upper jaw is not normal, a bite disorder-malocclusion occurs. These problems in the teeth and skeletal structure also show reflections on facial aesthetics to varying degrees. In other words, the problem here is both functional and aesthetic.
