Bruxismis a parafunctional habit that occurs when a person unconsciously clenches or grinds their teeth, which can damage both the teeth and the jaw muscles.It usually occurs at night during sleep, but can also occur during the day.

The main causes of bruxism include stress, anxiety, sleep disorders,malocclusion, and some neurological factors. It can lead to consequences such as abrasion, cracking, sensitivity, broken fillings, pain in the jaw joint (TMJ), headaches and tension in the chewing muscles.

Treatment methods include:

  • Use of a night guard .

  • Stress management and psychological support.

  • Muscle relaxant medications or botulinum toxin (Botox) applications .

  • Occlusal arrangements and orthodontic treatments when necessary .
